When Nista joined En Fuego in the spring of
2000 he was automatically inserted into the third spot in the
batting order for good reason. This was not typical for a new
arriving player, as they usually had to work their way up the
line-up as time passed.
Nista proved batting third is where he
belonged. He has led the team six times each in home runs and RBI for
a season to go along with three batting titles. Twice he has won the
team’s Triple Crown and he is a five time En Fuego MVP.
He holds six single season records for En Fuego
including 42 hits and 47 RBI. As of April 2005, Nista’s 76 career
home runs puts him behind only Wade Jackson’s 89 and Jason
Santoro’s 172 for third all-time in club history. His .637 career
batting average is second best only to Jackson’s .660 mark.
