PLAYS 500TH GAME:
EN FUEGO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
December
8, 2005
LAGUNA
HILLS – FINAL: En Fuego 16, Spring Training 13
It
was a special night for En Fuego softball as they beat rival Spring
Training 16-13 to take the 2005 Fall Thursday Night League
Championship. It was the thirteenth league championship for En Fuego
and third title win in 2005. It was extra special for third baseman Jason
England as he became the third player in team history to play in
his 500th career game. He now joins Craig
Watkins and Vince Petruzzi as
the first three to reach the milestone.
England,
an original member, is an En Fuego icon. A staple at third base for
years, he had a 212 consecutive games played streak at third base
for En Fuego from December 1996 to September 2000. After the teams
founder and first manager Jason Teague resigned in 1997 England took
over as interim manager along with current manager Craig Watkins.
England has helped shape En Fuego softball into the strong
organization it is today. One of the reasons En Fuego softball is so
successful is that it has maintained consistency over the years.
“Having the same group of guys game in and game out over the years
has been vital to our success,” said Watkins. “England has been
one of those key players, he’s one of the players that has made up
the core of En Fuego,” added Watkins.
