EN FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: FEBRUARY

February 8, 2000 – En Fuego records its 150th win in a 29-6 rout of Slump Busters in the Tuesday Night winter league at Chapparosa Park.  En Fuego scored at least five runs in each inning and only batted four times in the five-inning mercy.  They got out to an early lead by scoring six runs in both the first and second innings to take a 12-1 lead at the end of two.  After Slump Busters plated five runs in the top of the third inning En Fuego exploded for 12 runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach with a 24-6 lead.  They added five more runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning while holding Slump Busters scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the scoring.  The En Fuego offense was led by the 3-4-5 hitters, Brett Nista, Kevin Dull, and Craig Watkins, who all went 4-for-5 in the game.  Outfielder Greg Reynolds was a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI and every En Fuego batter had at least two hits in the game.  The team had 30 hits in the game in only 43 at bats for a .698 average with eight doubles, three triples, and three home runs.  The defense and pitching of Craig Watkins was able to hold Slump Busters scoreless for three out of the five innings.

EN FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: FEBRUARY

February 15, 2001 – En Fuego welcomed a new team to the Laguna Hills Thursday night league by beating them 25-5 in the third game of the season.  In what was the first match up between En Fuego and the Bull Dawgs, En Fuego jumped out to an early lead by scoring seven runs in the first and six runs in the second while holding Bull Dawgs scoreless in those innings.  Bull Dawgs finally plated a run in the top of third inning to make the score 13-1 at the end of three innings.  In the top of the fourth inning the Bull Dawgs scored four runs in an attempt to come back in the game, but En Fuego ended that with a 12 run outburst in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 25-5.  En Fuego would hold the Bull Dawgs scoreless in the fifth inning ending the game in a five-inning mercy.  Outfielder Greg Reynolds and catcher Jason Santoro led the En Fuego offense both going 4-for-4 in the game.  Santoro drove in eight runs on a double, two triples, and a home run, which was his 100th of his En Fuego career.  Mike Kerr, Vince Petruzzi, and Derek Gingerich all chipped in with three hits apiece in their four at bats.  The team batted .707 on the night with 29 hits including four triples.  Pitcher Craig Watkins held the Bull Dawgs' offense to only five runs while shutting them out in three of the five innings.

EN FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: FEBRUARY

February 20, 2003 En Fuego faced league foe Dough Pro in the fifth game of the Spring Laguna Hills Thursday night league in need of a win after suffering three losses in a row.  En Fuego knew they would need to score a lot of runs to match the usual output by the Dough Pro offense so they jumped on the board early with a four run first inning and added eight more runs in the second to take a 12-3 lead at the end of two.  After scoring four more runs in the third inning, En Fuego took control of the game by scoring 18 runs in the fourth inning to lead 34-4 after four innings.  En Fuego added three more runs in the fifth and Dough Pro was only able to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth so the game ended in a mercy with a final score of 37-8.  There were numerous offensive stars for En Fuego with outfielder Mike Lorton going 5-for-5 with a walk and five RBI.  Second baseman Kevin Lorton, outfielder Greg Reynolds, shortstop Brett Nista, outfielder James Verdi, and pitcher Craig Watkins all went 5-for-6 in the game.  Watkins reached a milestone by scoring his 500th run in his En Fuego career.  The team belted out 44 hits in the game for a .786 average including three home runs and 10 doubles.  The win ended their three game skid and helped En Fuego go on to win the league championship later that season.
