EN FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: JANUARY
January 29, 1997 – En Fuego took on powerhouse
Stac Pac in the season opener of the 1997 Winter Wednesday night league at
Chapparosa Park. It was the first game between the two teams since En
Fuego beat Stac Pac in the championship game in the 1996 Fall league at Oso
Viejo Fields. Both teams plated three runs in the first inning for a tie
game. Stac Pac then outscored En Fuego 9-8 over the next three innings to
hold a slight 12-11 lead after four innings of play. In the fifth inning
Stac Pac held En Fuego scoreless while scoring two runs, but then En Fuego
matched that in the sixth inning to trail by one run 13-14 heading into the
seventh and final inning. En Fuego lead off the seventh with six straight
hits before the first out was recorded and plated six runs in the inning.
En Fuego pitcher Craig Watkins made sure the lead was enough when he held Stac
Pac to three runs in the inning for the victory with a final score of
19-17. Outfielder Jason Teague led the offense going 4-for-4 in the game
with four RBI. He was helped by first baseman Larry Holman who went
4-for-5 with four RBI and third baseman Jason England who went 3-for-4 with
three runs and a triple. The win was En Fuego's fifth straight over Stac
Pac.

FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: JANUARY
January 17, 2002 – After starting off the 2002 Spring Laguna Hills Thursday night league with a loss to Dough Pro, En Fuego bounced back with a win over Omnious. En Fuego jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings by scoring three runs in both the first and second innings. In the third inning En Fuego would explode for 17 runs on 17 hits to take a 23-3 lead at the end of three innings. The En Fuego offense was far from done in this game though, they plated 11 more runs in the fourth inning and another eight runs in the fifth inning while holding Omnious to only one run over the final two innings of a 42-4 mercy. It was the second time in club history that the team scored 42 runs which is the second most runs scored in a game all time. There were plenty of offensive stars in the game for En Fuego with every player having at least one hit as the team had a total of 39 hits in the game. Lead off hitter Kevin Lorton was a perfect 7-for-7 with six runs and six RBI on the night. Other hitting stars were shortstop Brett Nista who was 5-for-6 with a home run and six RBI and first baseman Ryan Sauers who was 5-for-6 with a triple and five runs. Pitcher Craig Watkins, who held Omnious to only four runs, and third baseman Jason England both went 4-for-6 with each scoring four runs in the game. Omnious realized they were in over their heads in this talented league and would drop out before facing En Fuego again.
EN FUEGO SOFTBALL CLUB HISTORY: JANUARY
January 29, 2004 – In the third game of the 2004 Spring Laguna Hills
league, En Fuego had probably its best performance in team history. Not
only did the team tie the club record of runs scored in a game, but they posted
their fourth shutout in team history in a 47-0 mercy over World Of Hurt.
En Fuego jumped out to a huge lead in the bottom of the first inning with 18
runs on 17 hits while the first 18 batters reached base before an out was
recorded. En Fuego was held to only four runs in the second inning, but
were cruising with a 22-0 lead at the end of two. Any hope of a comeback
by World Of Hurt was erased in the bottom of the third inning when En Fuego
exploded for 21 runs on 23 hits, led by a grand slam by second baseman Mike
Kerr. En Fuego would plate four more runs in the fourth inning to take a
47-0 lead into the fifth inning and after pitcher Craig Watkins shut down World
Of Hurt for yet another inning the shutout win was in the books. Every En
Fuego batter had at least three hits as the team pounded out a team record 49
hits in the game. Second baseman Mike Kerr went 6-for-6 with 11 RBI, a
team record, and shortstop Cesar Reyes went 6-for-6 with eight RBI.
Outfielders Vince Petruzzi and Wade Jackson both were 6-for-7 and outfielders
James Verdi and Mike Lorton both had five hits in the game. Although the
competition was inferior, En Fuego played a great game with solid defense,
pitching, and an offensive explosion.
