En Fuego second baseman
Mike Kerr became the fifth
player in team history to reach the 1000th
hit plateau. Kerr singled for his 1000th hit
as he led En Fuego to a 21-8 blowout win over OhDahorra
in the pool play round at The Players Tournament in
Phoenix, Arizona.
In a classic setting at Wrigley
Field at the Big League Dreams Complex in Gilbert,
Arizona Kerr, with his left handed swing, did what he
has done so many times before. His smooth and effortless
stroke is one of the best around. “He should patent that
swing. It’s one of the sweetest left handed swings.”
Said En Fuego Coach Craig
Watkins
In the top of the fourth inning
with En Fuego cruising to victory leading 18-1, Kerr
came up to bat with two on and singled to drive in a
run. Kerr was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and scored
three runs in the game.
Kerr, the En Fuego team Captain
reached the milestone to join teammates
Jason Santoro,
Vince Petruzzi,
Kevin Lorton, and Craig
Watkins.
Kerr who was highly sought after to
play for En Fuego joined the team in November of 1999 in
the annual SCMAF T.O.C. in Palm Springs. In the
Winter/Spring league of 2000 Kerr took over at second
base for En Fuego and has been a mainstay for the last
nine years. He quickly became a force in the En Fuego
line-up batting second. With his clutch hitting Kerr has
led the way since he joined En Fuego and is one of the
big reasons En Fuego has enjoyed much of its success
since 2000.
