Ryan Johnson began playing with En Fuego in the
spring of 2006 when he made his debut in the 2006 Spring SVUSD
Tuesday night league at Ladera Ranch. He was exactly what En Fuego
needed, a versatile young player to mesh with some of the long time
veterans.
Defensively Johnson worked his way around in
the outfield and played some second base from time to time when
needed. He fit in well with his new teammates as he was just as
committed to winning as the rest of the club.
Offensively, Johnson is capable of hitting the
line drive to the gaps and can hit to all fields. He is also a
threat to hit the long ball when needed. With his aggressive base
running and his youth and speed, both on the base paths and on
defense, he has played an important roll in much of En Fuego’s
league and tournament championships since he joined the team. In the
2009 SCMAF T.O.C. Johnson was named to the all-tournament team while
helping lead En Fuego to victory.
In the fall of 2010 Johnson became the 16th
player in team history to have played in 200 games. He owns a career
batting average above .520 respectively and is climbing the ladder
in the En Fuego record books rapidly.
En Fuego nearly lost Johnson to free agency in
2009, but a last minute deal kept him with the club. He has since
taken over the regular first base job for En Fuego and hasn’t looked
back.
