November 6, 2008 – Corrie
Willkie 1,000 hits
FINAL: En Fuego 13, JK Inc. 17
LAGUNA HILLS, CA –
Corrie Willkie of En
Fuego put on a tremendous offensive display belting two
home runs and going 4-for-5 in the Thursday night 17-13
loss to JK Inc. Willkie, En Fuego’s clean-up hitter,
also drove in four runs and scored three times. Despite
his great efforts En Fuego fell short of victory, but
Willkie reached a milestone only five other En Fuego
players have. In the top half of the fifth inning
Willkie led off with a double for his 1,000th career hit
with En Fuego. He is the fastest to reach the milestone
doing it in just over four hundred career games.
Willkie, a career .637 hitter which
ranks second in En Fuego team history, has quickly piled
up the numbers since joining En Fuego in the fall of
2000. He has been a huge part of the En Fuego success
since he joined the team. “You can’t say enough about
what he brings to the team.” Said En Fuego manager
Craig Watkins
Willkie has not only been an
excellent offensive player over the years for En Fuego.
He is En Fuego’s best defensive player without a regular
position. “His versatility has helped the team win more
than anyone realizes.” Added Watkins
Mainly an infielder Willkie plays
outfield and each infield spot at a very high level. He
also pitches. “He would be the best player at whichever
position he played regularly on the team.” Said Watkins
Along with the 1,000 hits Willkie
has climbed the ranks in many categories with En Fuego.
He is in the top ten in games played all-time with over
four hundred through November 6, 2008. He is third
all-time in home runs on the team behind
Jason Santoro and will
soon pass Wade Jackson
into second place. He is also third all-time in RBI
trailing only Santoro and Craig Watkins. He is a
ten-time league MVP and has been named to nine
all-tournament teams including claiming MVP honors four
of those nine times.

November 11, 2008 – Greg
Reynolds 1,000 hits
FINAL: En Fuego 21, Mutts 14
LADERA RANCH, CA - Five days after
En Fuego teammate Corrie
Willkie collected his 1,000th hit
Greg Reynolds an
original member from the very first En Fuego season in
the fall of 1995 reached the 1,000th hit plateau. The
stage was Ladera Ranch Fields where En Fuego faced off
with the Mutts. In the first inning in his first at bat
of the game Reynolds slashed a single over the Mutts
first baseman’s head for hit number 1,000. “I’ve seen
him do that nearly a thousand times.” Said teammate
Vince Petruzzi, who is
another original from 1995. In vintage fashion Reynolds
placed the ball where most of his 1,000 hits have gone.
En Fuego scored seven times in the top of the first
inning en route to a 21-14 win over the Mutts in the
SVUSD Tuesday Night League game. Reynolds went 3-for-4
in the game and scored three runs.
Reynolds, who is on his third stint
with En Fuego, has been another player who has helped
mold En Fuego into a championship caliber team over the
years. “My heart has always been with En Fuego,” Said
Reynolds “I never really left the team.”
Despite moving to Las Vegas early
on and returning to the team only to stop playing
regularly again for a period of time, Reynolds ranks
high in many En Fuego offensive categories. Reynolds is
sixth all-time in games played. He is just shy of 500
career games and in 2009 he will join teammates
Craig Watkins,
Kevin Lorton, Vince
Petruzzi, Jason England,
and Jason Santoro as the
only players to have played 500 games for En Fuego.
Reynolds ranks six in runs scored all-time and eighth in
runs batted in. He also owns a career batting average
above .570.
Reynolds along with Willkie now
joins Mike Kerr who reached
1,000 hits in October 2008, Craig Watkins, Kevin Lorton,
Vince Petruzzi, and Jason Santoro in the En Fuego 1,000
hit club.
